Man is an adventurous creature. He is also a fun loving creature. Travelling helps him combine and enjoy these two passions. Travelling to new lands, exploring new places, finding hidden natural and artificial treasures, viewing different kinds of wildlife, and meeting strange people with strange cultures is something that many people love to do.
I also love travelling. Much of my passion for travelling is as a result of my upbringing. My father was an archeologist and his profession made him travel many lands excavating ancient treasures that would be useful in helping modern man understand more about his past. Most of my father’s work was done in Africa. He worked most of the time in Egypt but he also spend a lot of time in East Africa, Central Africa, and a brief spell in South Africa.
As it is, we, my mom, my brother and myself, could not always be with him. We would only be an unnecessary burden for him since most of his work included working in the outdoors where conditions were harsh and often dangerous. The working camps where my father and his team were based were ardently dedicated to achieving their goals and family life would only be a hindrance.
We were however able to visit my dad at designated times when he would have some free time. Many times instead of him coming home we joined him in the exotic lands where we could all enjoy some great time touring the adventurous unexploited lands.
As an adult, my love for travelling grew stronger. Growing up I discovered that travel was the best way for one to escape the daily hustles of everyday life and effectively get reinvigorated. I now travel far and wide. I still visit Africa especially for the more adventurous safaris which we could not enjoy as a family.
In my adulthood, I have learnt various ways of making my travels livelier. One major way of doing it is ensuring that whenever I travel I ensure that I have interacted as much as possible with local communities and ensuring that I learn something new from them.
Getting acquainted with strangers in a foreign land is not easy. I have however found a great way of breaking the ice with natives and bonding.
I love music and I realized a long time ago that music like money is universal. All communities around the world appreciate music. Since I am reasonably talented in music, with an excellent voice and skills in the guitar, I usually carry along my guitar during my travels and whenever an opportunity avails itself, I strike up a tune for the people.
The first time I did this, while touring Brazil, I had happened to stumble into a group of Brazilians who were having a sort of wedding celebration and they were singing. One of the local guys had a guitar and he was playing along to the group’s songs. Being a sport, I requested to sing them a song. The guys loved my song so much that they asked me to join them for the rest of the night. I had such a great time that night that I decided to adopt the habit of always carrying my travel guitar and playing whenever I could.
